Archeology

September meeting & dig 2015

Membership in Kissimmee Valley Archaeological and Historical Society provides the WMA students opportunities to work alongside professional and avocational archaeologists.

Attending monthly meetings and participating in an active excavation of an ancient village site, exposes  students to a world of professionalism rarely seen in a conventional high school program.

Excavation of the village site is the dominant part of this class.  Each month the students work with the archaeologist participating in all phases of the dig.  As a result of their work, students complete digital portfolios that include a record level form, plan view and a journal.

The students discover the culture of the Native-Americans that lived at this village site through research.  Their research is presented in digital portfolios.
